IE10 update error 9C59

    Question

  • HP ProBook 4525s energy star windows 7 sp1 pro

Tried to upgrade to IE10 from IE9 and i keep getting error 9C59.  I downloaded the standalone installer and it also fails to install.

Setup exit code: 0x00009C59 (40025) - The neutral cab failed to install.

is what i dug out of the setup log.  log also states my video card is good to go.

any ideas? (besides downloading a different browser!) :-p

    Hi,

Regarding current situation, I suggest we run following tool first to repair or reset Update components:

System Update Readiness Tool fixes Windows Update errors in Windows 7, Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008 R2, and Windows Server 2008

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947821/en-us

Then, let’s download the IE10 installation file here and install it in Clean boot mode:

    Download Internet Explorer 10

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-in/internet-explorer/ie-10-worldwide-languages

How to perform a clean boot to troubleshoot a problem in Windows 8, Windows 7, or Windows Vista

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135

If we still fail to install IE 10, please upload CheckSUR.log which locate in %SYSTEMROOT%\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log and IE10 installation log which locate C:\Windows here for further research.

Please upload them to a file sharing service like Skydrive or "Rapidshare" and put a link to them in your reply.

  • Have you tried what is described in this thread: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/ie/en-US/1ac87ad1-b775-4bcd-88dc-bc986087eff1/ie-10-installation-fails-neutral-package-installation-failed

    Don't forget about Alt+Esc!

thanks for the link i'll follow that thread although it appears that a solution hasn't been found like so many others i've encountered, i would have thought this problem would have been sorted by now as coming across various threads going back to the start of the year!!

  • I already done a reinstall before I read this post unfortunately but thanks for reply and solution.

I did however find how to prevent this error.  When running windows update from a fresh install (in my case) uncheck the upgrade to IE9 and check the box for IE10.  It seems when you check both on the updates I was getting this error.  I couldn't update to 10 or downgrade to 8 and IE9 couldn't receive critical updates so it seems it corrupts IE.  Hopefully it helps anybody else avoiding this headache.

Thanks for the replies by the way.
