  • Thanks Mark & John

I tried the bios and chipset but still no joy, i have spoken to the company and they are collecting the pc in the morning, they got me to try a new install of windows 7 and it was still the same so they think it must be a hardware problem, its typical I've had my old pc for 10 years and apart from getting slower it has never let me down, i go out and buy and all singing and dancing one, have it less than a week and it has to go back already!!

    Thanks again guys

  • You might want to try a newer BIOS on this machine.  I've seen several folks with similar Gigabyte boards saying that they needed BIOS rev F5 or later to resolve some of their USB problems.  I see you have F3, but F6 is listed as the latest for this machine (they don't even have the earlier revs posted for some reason): http://www.gigabyte.us/Support/Motherboard/BIOS_Model.aspx?ProductID=3160

Note:  Make sure that your motherboard is indeed the P55-UD5 before attempting to install the BIOS on that page.

  • I agree with Mark, it's better to update your BIOS to the latest F6 version. In addition, I suggest you to install the latest Chipset driver which  can improve the performace and stability for your computer. You can get it from the following link:

    http://www.gigabyte.us/Support/Motherboard/Driver_Model.aspx?ProductID=3160&ost=windows+7+64bit#anchor_os

I hope this can help you.

  • Hi pete,

If the issue is caused by the problematic hardware, you can only replace it with a new one.

    Good luck!

  • Hi All

Just wanted to say thanks again for all the advice, it was a problem with a memory card reader that was plugged into the motherboard usb slot, the reader was faulty and causing all the other ports to stop working!!, all sorted now, i just thought i would let people know what the problem was as there seems to be a lot of people having problems with usb ports on windows 7 ;-)
