Bug Report : Virtual PC/XP Mode - boot sector emulation - 3D Studio Max RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

Just tried virtual PC/XP mode thingy to try to run Autodesk 3D Studio Max version 6 & it fails to start. Works fine under VM Ware workstation.

I think the product uses some kind of boot sector copy protection that you're not emulating properly yet.

Thought you might like to know.

    Best regards,

    Steve.

  • The emulated card used by XP Mode is a 2D, 8MB version of an S3Trio graphics adaptor.  WVPC does not use the graphics card in the host.  Your Autodesk software cannot run on the Trio emulation.

  • 3D Studio Max needs 3D hardware accelleration, unless you're running a really old version. VPC doesn't provide this.

Not sure why you'd want to run a workstation app in a VM anyway though.
