COD4 in Windows 7 x64 RRS feed

  • Question

  • The game screen goes black when you load the game, and only the white mouse arrow shows. I have to quit with alt+tab and kill the task. Anyone with the same problem?

  • Hello,

CAD4 = Call of Duty and its patches have to be installed in compatibility mode for the OS you ran fine.

I've this graphic card and it has been updated by Windows updates (WDDM 1.1) but you could download the last driver for Win 7 from nVidia Website.

  • I had the same problem only with an ATI Radeon 3850. It appears to be a problem with Punkbuster as I reinstalled without Punkbuster and it opens just fine. Right now I don't need PB as I only play on my LAN setup. Here's a possbile fix for PB I saw in an earlier forum entry in a different part.   http://www.t3chworks.com/index_cod4fix.html

I haven't tried it but give it a whirl. It was reputed to work.

  • Also make sure that you update your Direct x from microsofts web page.  I had problems that I had a black screen but could here the intro and music.

  • Howdy Gents --- well, when I first set up Win7 RC and installed COD4 for testing, I had the notorious PB problem -- getting kicked after about 4-5 mins of play.

    I am running a dual-boot system with both XP-SP3 and Win7 RC.

Now it no longer happens. I made no changes. Heard a rumor that PB patched their latest version, which updates automatically when you use PB.

I am assuming they fixed it, as opposed to something MS might have done --- anyway, I can play away all day with no probs on both XP and Win7.

    Cheers All
