SharePoint .pdf files open in Adobe via IE, but only in the Browser with Edge RRS feed

  • Question

  • We have a SharePoint 2016 On-Premises farm. We are in the middle of a change over from using IE as the default browser to using Edge as the default browser.

When we use Edge to open .pdf files from a SharePoint library, the file only opens in the browser. We cannot get them to open in Adobe. Yet the same user opens IE, and navigates to the same SharePoint file, it will open with Adobe.

Is this yet another issue where Edge has depreciated SharePoint functionality, or is there a deep setting somewhere that we've missed?
Any help that can be provided is much appreciated.

All replies

  • all browsers that have a pdf viewer build in (Chrome, Edge, Brave) per default open pdf's inline.
For Chromium Edge you change this by edge://settings/content/pdfDocuments

  • Thank you for the tip and the link. Given that the process was working perfectly in SharePoint with all the IE browsers, and the problem only began with the switch to Edge, I assumed this would the appropriate starting point.
