How to change the replica path in DPM ? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am creating protection group to protect the Bare metal backup for a server, After creation of Protection group the consitency check failed with error: DPM is out of disdp pace for the replica and confirmed the replica path which is going to the DPM server's

C:\Program files …. which doesn't have enough space . How can I change the path to MBS (on disk) instead going to C drive and I did not get option to choose the replica path while creating the protection group.

    Any help?

  • Hello,

DPM does not calculate the size of the BMR data source, therefore DPM assumes that the size of the BMR is 20GB for all servers.

You can change this default replica size for all future BMR protection by creating adding a egistry key on the DPM server:

    Registry path:

    • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Microsoft Data Protection Manager\Configuration

    Registry key (DWORD):

    • ReplicaSizeInGBForSystemProtectionWithBMR

Note: You might need to restart the DPM server for the changes to take effect.

You can read the blog post below from Microsoft for more information about this registry tweak:

    https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/System-Center-Blog/How-to-increase-DPM-2016-replica-when-using-Modern-Backup/ba-p/351818

And to answer your question about changing the replica path, you cannot change or select where to store the replicas/backups.

The path is actually a volume mount point pointing to the replica on the DPM Storage pool disk.  DPM stores these volume mount points over here:
    C:\Program Files\Microsoft System Center\DPM\DPM\Volumes\Replica\.....

There will be no space consumed on C: drive.

    Best regards,
    Leon
