  • Dell Inspiron 1520 Laptop LCD is 1440x900
    Dell Monitor SP2309W  is 2048 x 1152

    Total: 3488*2052

According to Virtual PC Guy's WebLog, the total resolution of all monitors should not exceed 4096 x 2048.

    2052>2048.

So, Windows XP Mode has display issue on dual display.

    Thanks.

  • It does work. I had it running on my secondary (right-side of primary) display last night of my 3 monitor system.  I haven't tried it on 3rd (left-side of primary)display though.

There are some issues though, see:

  • Virtual applications can be moved to secondary monitor, if your left monitor is primary.

  • Thanks Robinson,

That must be the problem so. Is there any plan for MS to up the resolution support on Windows XP Mode?

With the price of Full HD LCD screens below $200, many people will be using dual Full HD 1080p Monitors with a total screen size of 3840*2160, so this should be an issue addressed before Windows XP Mode is released.

  • Small math issue here. If you put those two monitors side by side, you are talking a max resolution of 3488 x 1152. You would need four monitors to get 3488 x 2052.

  • The video ram for the emulated video card (S3Trio) determines the max resolution for the virtual machine's output.  Microsoft has not indicated any plan to change due to performance considerations.  The current emulation is sufficient for most legacy business applications, which is what XP Mode is designed for.
