Update errors, cannot update with Windos Vista

    Question

  • I have a new HP computer with Windows Vista that I purchased on June 6, 1007.  I have not been able to run an update on it.  I get the following error message and code:  Windows cannot search for new updates.  Error Code: 80072F76

I am not very knowledgable about computers.  A dummies version of an answer would be appreciated.  The HP tech suggested that I do a system recovery on it because we tried everything else she could come up with.  I would like to know if there is a solution that does not involve system recovery or restore.  Thank you.

    Lisa

  • Did you got ZoneAlarm installed, some peoples reported it is the source of your problem.

Besides, you can reference this KB too: http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=836941

    It may help your problem.

  • Hi, try the following steps:

1). Go into C:/ --> Windows and rename the software distribution folder to software distribution.old

2).  Click on Start, type services, go to services.Stop and start the Background Intelligent Transfer Service, Crytographic service, Remote Procedure call and Windows update by double clicking on each of them, click on Stop and start.

3). Try disabling your anti-virus because they do cause some issues with windows update.
