  • You need the 64-bit version of Windows 7 and then see this:

    Most new applications will work in 64-bit with some having specific 64-bit versions. Some Drivers may need to be replaced.

  • First of all, let's highlight an important point: you cannot upgrade a 32 bit operating system to a 64 bit one.
    You need to check that your PC has a 64 bit CPU and that you have 64 bit drivers for all the devices installed in your PC.
    Then you'll have to perform a full backup of your data: as I wrote before, you cannot perform an upgrade, but you'll have to do a clean installation of the 64 bit operating system (after deleting the existing installation); furthermore, if you do not have at least 4 GB of RAM installing a 64 bit operating system is not worth the effort.
