Windows 10 Enterprise 1607, UEV, and Outlook 2016 Issues RRS feed

  • Question

  • We are trying to use UEV in Windows 10 Enterprise 1607 to roam Office 2016 Professional Plus 32-bit settings using the Office 2016 32-bit UEV template that shipped with Windows 10 1607.  We have also setup Outlook 2016 for ZeroConfig on first run (where the user does not get prompted for any Outlook setup options) and are also using a local cache for Outlook.

Note: The same issue occurs with Outlook included with Office 365 ProPlus 32-bit (click-to-run version), but we are deploying Office 2016 Professional Plus 32-bit (MSI version).

With this configuration, UEV is causing two significant issues...

    1. Users get prompted for their default Outlook profile name when opening Outlook for the first time on a new machine

    2. A new Outlook 2016 Group ".nst" file gets created every time a user logs onto a machine where they already have an Outlook profile setup

Neither of these issues occur if UEV is disabled.  We are aware of the following KB articles...

Understanding the limitations of roaming Outlook signatures in Microsoft UE-V

Migrating MAPI profiles with Microsoft UE-V is not supported

Still not perfectly clear if these issues are the results of whats documented in the above KB articles?

Any assistance or guidance would be greatly appreciated!

    Regards,

    JJ

  • Update...

Outlook 2016 Group ".nst" files are only an issue with Office 365 ProPlus (click to run), its not currently an issue with Office 2016 ProPlus (MSI).

We found our own solution to #1 by pre-populating some registry settings using AD Group Policy Preferences.

  • Hi,

Have the same issues with UEV and the profile prompt - out of interest what registry settings did you need to pre-populating? We though the profile was a unique GUID and would love to work around the issue :)

    Thanks
