How to update SCOM2016 Agent RRS feed

  • Our company have been deloyed System Center OM 2016, and I am trying to manually install the agent on a PC by using MOMAgent.msi.
    But I can see the verison is 8.0.10918.0.

    1. Could you please let me know how to update to the latest verison? I tried to click MOMAgent.mis one more time but it do not show any 'update' button, only 'remove' or 'repair'.
      It is the same when I make it via command line "msiexec /i path\Directory\MOMAgent.msi /qn /l*v %temp%\OMAgentUpgrade.log AcceptEndUserLicenseAgreement=1".

    2. Why I cannot install to the newest verison directly by MOMAgent.msi? The installation file I use is in "C:\Program Files\Microsoft System Center 2016\Operations Manager\Server\AgentManagement\amd64".

  • Hi,

    One thing to check is if you are running SCOM 2016 with any Update Rollup, you can download the agent update file for an Update Rollup manually from the Microsoft Update Catalog


    1. First install the agent manually with the MOMAgent.msi

    2. Download the Update Rollup agent update file and run it on the agent computer.


    Also note that SCOM 2016 does not show the correct versions by default in the Operations Console, this has been an ongoing issue for a long time.

    You are most likely already running the latest version of the agent, I would highly recommend using Kevin's "SCOM Management" management pack to verify the real SCOM agent versions, this management pack is excellent and makes a SCOM administrator's life much easier.

    Here's an example from the Operations Console:

    Administration > Agent Managed

    Thanks for your reply. 

    I have followed your instruction to installed the latest update file but nothing changed on the agent PC.  But my PC is still with verison 8.0.xxx, meanwhile you can see some agented PC is with version 10.19xxxxx. Is such a huge difference caused by SCOM version display issue?  The verison is also 8.0xxx in my PC control panel view.

  • The Control Panel will always show the RTM version of an agent, never an updated agent.

    Version 10.xx.xxxxx.x is SCOM 2019 agents, while version 8.x.xxxxx.x is SCOM 2016 agents, and version 7.x.xxxxx.x is SCOM 2012 R2 agents.
