Windows 10 Home to Windows 10 Pro - No upgrade available RRS feed

  • Question

  • The current upgrade from Windows 10 home to Windows 10 Pro does not allow the user to upgrade. When selecting the Microsoft Windows Store via the "Activation" method, the user can select the $99.00 upgrade but when the upgrade is selected the user receives an error "something went wrong try again".

Does anyone have an answer to this error message? If this is the way to upgrade from the "Store" is there something else that could be blocking the upgrade?

The "Digital Entitlement" is how the original upgrade for this OEM took place. The computer was an upgrade form Windows 8.1 Home and was upgraded to Windows 10 Home. The end result would be to upgrade to Windows 10 Pro for purposes of being able to use the encryption features.

  • Hi,

Please run reset the Windows Store cache:

    1. Press the Win+R keys to open the Run dialog.

    2. Type WSReset.exe, and click on OK.

    3. The Store and a command prompt will now open without any message. The command prompt will

automatically close when the Store cache has been reset.

Afterwards, to upgrade to Windows 10 pro again via the following steps:

Settings->Update and security->Activation, then click on the Go to Store.

Then Windows 10 pro would be available there.

For the other way, we may consider download the proper install Media and then perform an upgrade installation.
