settings migration from 2012 to 2019 RRS feed

  • Question

  • We have a SCOM 2012 environment and the management packs that have been uploaded have been customized with specific settings for monitoring. We are installing a new SCOM 2019 environment and are installing the current management packs, is there a way to export the settings specified in the SCOM 2012 management packs and import those settings into our SCOM 2019 management packs or a settings migration process?

  • Hi,

By "settings specified in the SCOM 2012 management packs" do you refer to overrides, groups, custom monitors & rules?

All of these are saved to custom management packs (I hope not to the Default management pack...), you can simply export these management packs from your SCOM 2012 environment, and thenimport these to your new SCOM 2019 environment.

    Best regards,
    Leon

  • There's no real recommended way, every migration scenario may be unique, to make things easier you can script the export of the management packs:

    Export sealed management packs

    Get-SCOMManagementPack | where {$_.Sealed -eq $True } | Export-SCOMManagementpack -Path "C:\Management Packs\Sealed"

    Export unsealed management packs

    Get-SCOMManagementPack | where {$_.Sealed -eq $False} | Export-SCOMManagementpack -Path "C:\Management Packs\Unsealed"
