sccm 1802 to 1902 upgrade RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

We are currently running SCCM 1802 and planning to upgrade to 1902, As per understanding it's straight forward for Primary Site , check prerequsites and Install, and Secondary site we need to install manually , but below are my questions.

    1. Whether DP will get auto upgrade or not.

    2. Clients we are planning to manually install. (what will be the client upgrade installing package size)

    3. SCCM 1802 going to expiry in 22 Sep 2019, if my primary server is upgraded to 1902 is it fine in that timeline , or all (Secondary, DP and Clients )has to upto date in that timeline and if clients are having older version whether any issue will be there. (we have plan to upgrade , but we cannot migrate before 22-Sep-2019 ).

    Regards,

    Mani

  • Hi Mani,

    1. Once you upgrade the primary site, the DP will be upgraded automatically, you don't do anything in the DP.
    2. You have the choice between the automatic and manual upgrade options, the client upgrade package size is almost the same.
    3. If you are planning to upgrade SCCM from 1802 to 1902, the secondary sites and clients still supported with the new version but It's recommended to plan also their upgrade to extend the Microsoft Support and benefits with the new features.

  • Hello,

    Thanks for posting in TechNet.

1> Yes, except for DPs within a secondary site.

2> If you mean the "Client Upgrade Package" in the content library, it's quite small, in my lab it's 3.91 MB.

However, when we upgrade the client, it downloads any files that are newer than the local files. It's hard to tell what the exactly size would be but it would not exceed the size of original client package. Is there any reason why you want to upgrade client manually? If we need to copy the client folder to the client then upgrade from local source, the size is about 250 MB.

3> It should be fine as long as you as we upgrade the secondary sites and clients asap.

Hope my answer could help you and look forward to your feedback.

    Best Regards,
    Ray
