how to change functionnality of media hotleys RRS feed

  • General discussion

  • Hi,

    Not sure if its the right forum for this question but, here it is. I've just received a new keyboard (logitech K200) with media hotkey, and i'd like to swap the "home" media keys to "previous track" and "mail" to "next track".

    After some research, i've found that we can modify these hotkeys thanks to registry here :

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\AppKey

    and the different available keys are :

    APPCOMMAND_BROWSER_BACKWARD = 1
    APPCOMMAND_BROWSER_FORWARD = 2
    APPCOMMAND_BROWSER_REFRESH = 3
    APPCOMMAND_BROWSER_STOP = 4
    APPCOMMAND_BROWSER_SEARCH = 5
    APPCOMMAND_BROWSER_FAVORITES = 6
    APPCOMMAND_BROWSER_HOME = 7
    APPCOMMAND_VOLUME_MUTE = 8
    APPCOMMAND_VOLUME_DOWN = 9
    APPCOMMAND_VOLUME_UP = 10
    APPCOMMAND_MEDIA_NEXTTRACK = 11
    APPCOMMAND_MEDIA_PREVIOUSTRACK = 12
    APPCOMMAND_MEDIA_STOP = 13
    APPCOMMAND_MEDIA_PLAY_PAUSE = 14
    APPCOMMAND_LAUNCH_MAIL = 15
    APPCOMMAND_LAUNCH_MEDIA_SELECT = 16
    APPCOMMAND_LAUNCH_APP1 = 17
    APPCOMMAND_LAUNCH_APP2 = 18
    APPCOMMAND_BASS_DOWN = 19
    APPCOMMAND_BASS_BOOST = 20
    APPCOMMAND_BASS_UP = 21
    APPCOMMAND_TREBLE_DOWN = 22
    APPCOMMAND_TREBLE_UP = 23
    APPCOMMAND_MICROPHONE_VOLUME_MUTE = 24
    APPCOMMAND_MICROPHONE_VOLUME_DOWN = 25
    APPCOMMAND_MICROPHONE_VOLUME_UP = 26
    APPCOMMAND_HELP = 27
    APPCOMMAND_FIND = 28
    APPCOMMAND_NEW = 29
    APPCOMMAND_OPEN = 30
    APPCOMMAND_CLOSE = 31
    APPCOMMAND_SAVE = 32
    APPCOMMAND_PRINT = 33
    APPCOMMAND_UNDO = 34
    APPCOMMAND_REDO = 35
    APPCOMMAND_COPY = 36
    APPCOMMAND_CUT = 37
    APPCOMMAND_PASTE = 38
    APPCOMMAND_REPLY_TO_MAIL = 39
    APPCOMMAND_FORWARD_MAIL = 40
    APPCOMMAND_SEND_MAIL = 41
    APPCOMMAND_SPELL_CHECK = 42
    APPCOMMAND_DICTATE_OR_COMMAND_CONTROL_TOGGLE = 43
    APPCOMMAND_MIC_ON_OFF_TOGGLE = 44
    APPCOMMAND_CORRECTION_LIST = 45

    In my case, only keys 7,15,16,17 and 18 are present.
    I'd like to make key 7 to previous track, and key 15 to next track, but i couldnt find what argument i should use.

  • Hi,

    I suggest you access the Logitech official website to download the driver and check the user manual. For your reference:

  • I have already checked on their website. This keyboard use windows native driver, they won't let me download their software for this keyboard.

    Furthermore, someone already asked the same question as me on their forum, and nobody answered, thats why im asking it here, if i can find a solution using registry

  • I know this answer is a bit late... and is not exactly the solution for your problem but it's a workaround.

    I had the same problem, in my case I wanted to mute the volume (APPCOMMAND_VOLUME_MUTE) instead of open the media player (AppKey 16). So what I did is create a vbs to do this and execute it when the key is pressed.

    The registry look like this:

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\AppKey\16]
    "ShellExecute"="\"HOTKEY_16.vbs\""

    And the vbs file ("C:\Windows\System32\HOTKEY_16.vbs") contains this:

    CreateObject("WScript.Shell").SendKeys chr(&HAD)

    The code AD is the virtual key code (vkcode) of the Volume Mute key, and the prefix &H indicates that the number is in its hexadecimal format. You can see the other vkcodes here: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/dd375731(v=vs.85).aspx

    Sorry for my bad english.

    Hope this helps.
