Windows Defender Does Not Load or open. Error code: 0x800106ba

  • Hi,
When I try to open the Windows Defender program, the following error message is displayed:
Applicaion failed to initialize:0x800106ba. A problem caused this program's service to stop.
To start the service, restart your computer or search Help and Support for how to start a
    service manually.
I have searched Help and Supprt for ways to resolve this issue and had no results resolving this issue. I have followed the article in Microsofte Technet on how to resolve this issue (location of article:
Error message when you run Windows Defender: "Error Code 0x800106ba")
and have also had no result. When I attempted to uninstall and then re-install the program, I could not locate it to remove in the "Add or Remove programs" window in Control Panel. The program was not displayed on the list. I installed clean up and I could not initialize the clean up program because it was not where it was supposed to be according to the article on using/installing clean up. I followed the next help topic, which was to type codes into "RUN". When I typed the codes into "RUN" mosrt of them registered correctly, but the following codes did not work:

These when entered displayed the following message:
The module "wuaueng.dll" was loaded but the call to the DLLRegisterServer failed with error
    code 0x80070005.
For more information about this problem, search online using the error code as a search term.
This message was displayed for both of the entered dll codes mentioned above.

When I entered the following codes into "RUN":

    the following message was displayed:
The module "initpki.dll" fai;ed to load.
Make sure the binary is stored at the specified path or debug it to check for problems
with the binary or dependant .DLL files.
the specified module could not be found.
This error message was displayed for both codes entered into "RUN".

I have checked for updates for my system and all latest updates are installed.

My system details are as followed:
Windows Vista Home Premium 32 bit

I would like instructions on steps I could take to resolve this issue.
    Thank you.

  •  I've found at last the solution for this error code :
Go to Windows Help and Support. Type : Services : and Search,

this will direct you to the Task Manager and just follow the instructions. Have to be careful though as it seems to be unchartered territory. But from there you can start Windows Defender manually, but follow the instructions and you^ll be able to
set it up so it runs automatically.
thanks qhn for your reply but it doesnt work your way. and a
download from Microsoft is impossible, if you have Vista.

    This solution is posted here:

    Good luck

  • Here is the easiest fix:

    1.  Go to windows: Run
    2. type "msconfig"
    3. Give windows permission to continue if prompted
    4. Go to the "startup" tab
    5. Windows defender will be on the list with a check in it's box
    6. uncheck windows defender (unchecking will take it off the list of disabled programs at startup)
    7. Click "apply"
    8. Click "okay"
    9. you will be prompted to restart for changes to take effect-restart
    10. No more problem!!!!!!!!!!!
