  • Hi,

    Please temporarily disable firewall and antivirus program, and then refer to the following steps to troubleshoot the issue.

    Rename Windows Update Temporary folders

    =================================

    1. Click the Start Button, go to the Search textbox, type in "Notepad" (without the quotation marks) and press Enter.

    2. Copy the following commands and then paste them into the opened Notepad window:

    net stop wuauserv

    net stop Cryptsvc

    ren %windir%\SoftwareDistribution sdold.old

    ren %windir%\system32\catroot2 crt2old.old

    net start wuauserv

    net start Cryptsvc

    3. After pasting the above commands, please close the Notepad window. Choose Save when you are prompted to save the file. Type "register.bat" (without the quotation marks) as the file name and choose Desktop from the left panel as the location.

    4. Refer to the Desktop and right click the register.bat file, then choose Run as administrator.

    5. A DOS-like window will begin processing.

    Then, please restart the computer and check if we can update now.

    If the issue persists, please collect the following log file and upload it to Skydrive (www.skydrive.live.com) for research.

    1. Click Start menu and type: %windir% and press Enter.

    2. Locate a file named "WindowsUpdate.log"

    3. Upload it to Skydrive and share the link to me. If there is any error message, please also upload it.

    Thanks,

    Novak

    * control panel/Troubleshooting/fix problems w/Win Update: stuck searching for over 8 hours.

    *  sfc/scannow  results are clean

    * Reinstalled new Agent 7.6.WindowsUpdateAgent-7.6-x64, no help.

  • Hi I've had this problem with this Windows Update since Aug 18, 2016, that was the date I connected my printer HP ENVY 5530. The very first time it tried to Update, the Update failed. Error details: CODE 80070490, it said to get help with This error. It recommended to go to Hewlett-Packard and/or Microsoft. From that date on (today is 1/12/17) the download attemted to update and failed with same notice. Sometimes it would attempt twice a day and failed. I've gone to Hewlett-Packard at least 3 times and Microsoft twice. With no results, I'm keeping my experience with both silent, but very dissappointing. You see this is the second printer , same Model as as the first printer, HP ENVY 5530. What this failed attempt to Update has done is effect my printing jobs that I would send my printer. Sometimes it would print, or not start the job for anytime from 5 minutes to the next day the printer would just start printing. Many , many times it would start the job, then stop and start a different job. Or keep printing the same job over again. That it just the tip of the ice berg. Many times it just wouldn't print at all. I have done hours and hours of research, talking to techntions. They or I should say many were stupped . But I would not give up, it's benn 4 months with this current printer. Before that I only took it for less than 2 months. But now my son purchased me a new printer HP ENVY 7640 All-in-one-Printer series. It's been sitting in the box for a few months now. There is much more regarding getting help from Hewlett Packard and Microsoft both haven't heard the last from me. There printers and there Computor, there not showing me much in backing there products up. Believe me my family thinks I'm crazy for putting up with all these problems that I'm told can be fixed, but how? when?

    Sincerely Jams
