Wake On Lan / Returning from Hibernation issue - Windows 7 Pro 64 bit won't start RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I have problem with Wake On Lan and Returning from hibernation. Results are exactly the same:

    - computer starts

    - after boot screen, when normally windows should start, I see black screen with blinking console cursor in upper left corner of the screen.

And that's it! I have upgraded BIOS, LAN driver... also Windows is up to date. I have tried also on added NIC - the same.

    Computer details:

    - HP 8200 Elite Microtower

    - Windows 7 64 bit Professional

    - Two Graphic cards: ATI FireGL V3350, NVIDIA GeForce 9500 GT - that's only unusual thing in this machine... But with one card it's the same.

Please help, I have digged half of the Internet after this without any suitable solution :(. But please don't ask me to call HP Support, already tried: "reinstall windows, update drivers and BIOS" yeah right...

  • Already tried in that direction but this bios is wicked... In every other bios there are options for wake on lan similar to: "S5 bla bla bla", but not here. The only option with "S5" in the name is "S5 Maximum Power Savings". If disabled, WOL powers up computer but Windows won't start. If enabled WOL doesn't start computer. After enabling this option this waring comes:

"Enabling this feature will disable any wake events and management services while s5"

Crap... I tried to upload some screens from BIOS but it looks that my account should be verified first :|

    EDIT:

I have found identical PC. I toked hard drive from this PC and connected it to my PC. Surprise surprise... WOL worked and Windows (7 64bit pro) started. I have compered BIOS settings, they are identical, version also. Strange thing is that my Windows was installed few weeks ago so I haven't got much time to broke it... :) So, situation is clear. Something is wrong with my OS. Any ideas?

  • Already checked. It is set as you described. Computer starts but Windows doesn't. This is not a case in this problem :( But thanks for trying.
