  • Hey Dkanowit,

    Thanks for posting here.

The WU error 80243004 means a failure occurs when Windows Update trying to create an icon in the taskbar notification area.

This problem is likely caused by the abnormal System Notification Area.

A simple solution is to reboot the server and check WU again. If the error persists, resize the System Tray and select "Always show all icons and notifications on taskbar."

Please refer to the TechNet thread below.

Meanwhile, if the thread above does not help, I’d also recommend you try some general Windows Update troubleshooting methods as following.

    1. Temporarily disable any Antivirus and Firewall programs

    2. Reset Windows Update components and rename the C:\windows\softwaredistribution folder

    3. Run System Update Readiness Tool and System File Checker

    4. Run In-place upgrade.

    Hope the information is helpful.

    Thanks

  • I think you are using RDP

Try using console and run update

  • Hi Guys, Another reason this error message will come up is the Internet Connections Setings in Internet Explorer have proxy settings set on them. Disabling the proxy settings and restarting IE will often fix the issue. Cheers

  • Unfortunately, none of the above worked for me.

I have 3 Windows Updates (KB3126587, KB3126593 & KB31240410) which fail with the same error code: 80243004. Still cannot get the updates installed.

  • I also faced the issue once and got the solution from this blog post . It can be  be resolved by by changing the Task bar setting to “Always show all icons and notifications on the Taskbar”
