windows 7 explorer rotate photos takes forever

  • Windows 7 64 bit Explorer used to rotate photos quickly. (Local folders) Now it is like molasses in January. If I select five to rotate together, it chugs along and the green bar above in the folder address line restarts, like Windows has to re-read each photo in the folder, taking a full minute to complete. Explorer isn't responsive to input until that completes. There is one video in this same folder, with 172 photos, each about 4 or 5 meg size. Is it disk fragmentation? The computer is a Core 2 Duo, 2.3 Ghz, 6 Gig RAM, and seemed fast enough before!

  • Hi Russ,

Firstly, please let us know if you have changed some system settings.

Meanwhile, please test if the following setting can help you.

    1. Open Control Panel and search for Folder Options.

    2. Click View Tab in Folder Options.

    3. Select Always show icons, never thumbnails.

    4. Click Apply and then OK.

    Hope this helps.

  • Thanks but I wanted the thumbnails, to view the photo! Before, Windows Explorer would rotate them quickly and show them quickly, but just now it bogs down with a few minor changes to the folder contents.

  • Hi,

    Thanks for the reply.

At this time, please test the issue again in Clean Boot Mode and Safe Mode.

If issue persists in Safe Mode and Clean Boot Mode, please try the following:

    1. Change View options and see how it works. You can use Medium Icons for a test.

    2. Set the following setting for this folder and see how it works.

    3. Temporary remove a half of the photos in the folder and see how it works.

    4. Check your drive for errors.

    5. Run disk defragmentation.

    Hope this helps.
