Hi,
You might be able to recover a previous registry backup from windows system restore as described in :http://support.microsoft.com/kb/322756
I would avoid using 3rd party registry tools at all costs.
NOTE: Be careful with this as some OEM copies of Windows are not compatible with this process, If your OS came with the PC pre-installed you may need to consult the manufacturer before following said article.
Kind Regards,
Martin

Any error message displayed while installing Microsoft Security Essentials?
Tyri using Microsoft Online Safety Scanner at the following addresshttp://www.microsoft.com/security/scanner/en-us/default.aspx
or Symantec Norton Security Scan from the following address
http://security.symantec.com/sscv6/DownloadInstructions.asp
to verify that your system is virus free.
After that, you can download and run the Wise Registry Cleaner Free tool from the following addresshttp://www.wisecleaner.com/wiseregistrycleanerfree.html
and try to repair you registry (do not use this software to perform any kind of "optimization").
Bye.
