Device Encryption does not turn on RRS feed

  • Question

  • Trying to enable Device encryption on Windows 10 1903 (OS build 18362.30) and the error is “Something went wrong. Try again later.”  Waited later even days!!!

The laptop is a Lenovo L390 Yoga

Looking in System Information, Device Encryption requires elevation to view but am logged is as local admin.  Login as domain admin, displays the same message.

    Event viewer has nothing…..

    Any ideas?

  • If you could use domain admin account login system, the PC is installed Pro or Enterprise edition Windows. So you could directly enable BitLocker on specific drive via Explorer/Control Panel, don’t need to use Device Encryption interface.

Because Home edition cannot enable BitLocker, this edition of Windows 10 needs to use Device Encryption interface.

Please refer to this article to check whether your PC meet the requirements, then restart and enable BitLocker or Device Encryption again.

  • Sorry we're using enterprise....

Just to clarify, my understanding was the device encryption was replacing bitlocker....so if it's not, then I would use bitlocker?

    Thanks

  • Despite device encryption use the same technology as BitLocker, but they aren’t consistent.

When you run windows Home edition, Device encryption is the only choice, when you use Pro and higher editions, BitLocker can be enabled, which provides more management and features.

Since you are using Enterprise edition in a company environment, BitLocker is a more proper choice, just enable it.
