Gray X's showing on networked folders & files RRS feed

  • Question

  • I wish I had a screen shot to show the "class" but I don't.

Lately, we are having an issue with one of our departments network drives content. They can open up the network drive, but when they do all the content has a little gray X on the bottom left corner. They can not open any folders or files with this X mark on them.

If they do a simple reboot everything is fine.....until it isn't....and the gray X's show up again.

The only thing that has changed recently is we replaced an old 10/100 with a 1GB switch to increase bandwidth.

Why do these gray X's show up?

  • I found out what it was. Our Sys Admin changed the NTFS settings at the root of the file share. He forgot to add "Authenticated Users" back to the NTFS permissions.

    Thanks for the help
