Cannot Print. "The Active Directory Domain Services is currently unavailable"

    Question

  • Hi there

I cannot print and I have not been able to find the fix via existing forum threads.

    System:
Win 7 Ultimate 64 bit German - Profile language is Danish (installed a week ago and completely windows updated)
    Office 365 Small Business Premium
    HP DV8 Laptop. i7, 512GB SSD, 8GB RAM
    HP LaserJet P1006 USB printer.

    Problem

No matter if I try to print from IE, Notebook, Word 2013 or anything else, I cannot chose my printer (P1006).

If I try to Add Printer in Word 2013, I get the "The Active Directory Domain Services is currently unavailable" error.

In Devices and Printers, the P1006 is visible, but there is no driver installed.

Trying to install the correct driver:
    http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareIndex.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodNameId=3435683&prodTypeId=18972&prodSeriesId=3435682&swLang=8&taskId=135&swEnvOID=4063
only creates a general error during installation: "Printer  Software Installer has stopped working - A problem has caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows closes the program and will notify you if a solution has been found"

I have tried all the solution software from Windows, from HP (for the laptop and for the printer) - but nothing comes up with any details or suggestions.

    What should I try?

Absolutely everything else works perfectly on the system.

They are not compatible and the drivers have not been provided by Microsoft to many suppliers which means you may never be able to use your printer with Windows 7. This is a clever marketing ploy to get us to all buy new printers! Sticking with Windows 2003 might be a better option!"

  • Thanks!

1a) Tried it. No problems found.

    1b) No luck

    2) Cannot install driver

    3) Does not work. And also: This is not a network printer - it is a USB printer

    What to try next?

  • It was working fine when I was using windows 7 home premium. It is only after my format and install of windows 7 ultimate that it does not work.

  • Then you can call up Microsoft support and get this checked

  • For me the solution of AudriusG helped to overcome the problem.

I went to administrative tools -> computer management -> Services -> Printer Spooler

and changed 'automatic' to 'start', afterwards I was able again to print on all my printers.

    Thanks for the suggestion !

  • I am having the same problem. I tried AudriusG's idea of administrative tools -> computer management -> Services -> Printer Spooler and then tried to change 'automatic' to 'start'  but found that there was an 'automatic (delayed start)' option but no 'start' option in the listbox. So I selected 'automatic (delayed start)' and received the error message 'The delayed auto-start flag could not be set. Error 87: The parameter is incorrect' I really need help. I did not choose to upgrade from windoes 8 to windows 10, it was forced on me by Microsoft. And now I am dead in the water because I can not print anything. And my business is printing promotional items. I NEED HELP!

  • Hi,

Try to stop the service, then revert it to automatic again, then start it. If you are unable to start or stop and the print spooler service is in the hung state, then open task manager, end task the spoolsv.exe, refresh the services.msc window and try to start the service. It should start successfully now.

  • I have essentially the same problem as Anders, with Windows7.

I can print from Notepad and the printer is installed correctly, but when I try to print from Word2013 or Excel2013 I get the message "No printers installed" and when I try to install it I get "The Active Directory Domain Services is currently unavailable".

I have reinstalled the printer driver, restarted the print spooler, and done a "Troubleshoot" on the printer without success.

    Suggestions?

    Thanks.

  • The "The Active Directory Domain Services is currently unavailable" message is due to the fact that Office applications link to the AD printer scan page to display a list of printers published to you Active Directory which you probably not connected to during the activity.

Are you running a 32bit version of Office?

Check the Windows Application event log for indications of crashes in splwow64.exe or spoolsv.exe

add the printer by executing Add Printer Wizard or launch printui /il from the Run line.

Then launch the application again to pick up the list of printers.

Are any of the printers local or are they shares from another machine?
