downloading files with internet e-mail--can I choose what application to use to open?

    Question

  • I have downloaded an Adobe Acrobat PDF file.   In the Firefox Downloads page, there is no option to SAVE the file in a desired location.  The only choice is to OPEN the fiel, but unfortunately I get the error message, which is obvious, is that Msft. PAINT cannot open the file.  I don't want to use PAINT, I want to use Acrobat Reader.

My question, using Windows 7 and the Firefox browser, how can I include Acrobat as a choice in opening files.

    best, Aaron

  • Does the issue occur with IE8? If not, it should not related to Windows 7. In this situation I suggest you discuss in Firefox related forums.

  • Try the following

    Check firefox setting

    1. At the top of the Firefox windowOn the menu bar, click on the ToolsFirefoxEdit menu, and select Options...Preferences....
    2. Select the Applications panel.
    3. Find Adobe Acrobat Document in the list and click on it to select it.
    4. Click on the drop-down arrow in the Action column for the Adobe Acrobat Document entry and select Use Adobe Acrobat (in Firefox)
    5. Click OK to close the Options windowClick Close to close the Preferences windowClose the Preferences window

Now try to view a PDF in Firefox. If it opens in the browser window, the problem is solved

  • I have Firefox mapped to a download folder I created and specified because Firefox will not allow you to (re)direct on a per download basis like IE does.

Firefox/ Tools/ Options/ Downloads and remap where they go. Upon download it shows the folder and I just double click it. That way it opens with the default program my computer uses to open a given file type. And I always know where to get the file in the future or I'm free to delete it, copy it to another directory, etc.
