HIgh DPC CPU Usage because of storport.sys RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have been having high CPU Usage on my laptop for a while. So, I tried to investigate the problem using the DPC Latency Checker V1.3.0 and keep getting a high latency every few seconds (like 10 - 15) but, if I start a game, it happens every 2- 5 seconds.

I ran Windows Performance Analyzer trace and found out the problem for the high DPC is storport.sys. Attached are the screen shots -

My system config is as follows -

    Windows 7 Home Premium (SP1) - 64 Bit

    Intel Core2 Quad CPU Q9000 @ 2.00 GHz

    8GB RAM

ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4870 X2

I have 2 HDD installed on the laptop (both 320 GB which I am guessing could be the cause of the problem).

Please advice how to go about solving this problem. The continuous spikes are almost making the system unusable.

  • Hi,

I suggest you perform clean boot and troubleshoot the issue.

Another suggestion is to update your storport.sys drive to the latest and check this issue again.

Here is an article can be referred to.

Computer crashes when you use Driver Verifier to monitor Storport.sys if you disable the HBA in Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2

Meantime, you should scan you system and remove the malware in time.

    Hope that helps.
