Group Policy - Taking 3 minutes to copy 300kb to local data-store - why so long? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I have users on a remote site and the technician building computers is saying that it takes over five minutes for group policy to process on Windows 10.

Upon investigation I discovered that the when the computer starts to copy the policies to the local datastore in c:\windows\system32\grouppolicy\datastore, it takes over three (3) minutes to do this.

On my laptop, it takes less than 30 seconds.

    There are two differences.

My laptop is connected to the local dc and it is en-gb

The remote laptops are connected to the DC via WAN and are Japanese.

I do not think the WAN connectivity is responsible as the computer has already downloaded the files it needs before copying them into the datastore cache ( at least that is my interpretation of the event viewer and debug files)

Can anyone shed some light on why it will take 3 minutes to copy less than 300K, both laptops have the same AV product.

    many thanks
