Will EMET 5.5 work with .NET 4.6? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I would like to know if EMET 5.5 will work fine with .NET 4.6?  We are upgrading to EMET 5.5 but also plan on later moving to .NET 4.6.  The system requirements information for EMET 5.5 says that .NET 4.5 needs to be used.  It would be easier for us to go directly to .NET 4.6 if EMET 5.5 works with it.  Does EMET 5.5 work with either .NET 4.5 or .NET 4.6?

  • Hi Doug, I have been installing it on machines with .NET 4.6.1 installed, and it seems to work. I do have one machine with an issue at the moment, and I'm currently reinstalling .NET 4.6.1 to see if that fixes the issue.

  • EMET 5.52, the very last EMET release, works fine with .Net 4.8 on Win 7.  I updated from .Net 4.52 to 4.8 yesterday, and thus far, EMET isn't spitting out error messages.   Before updating, I Googled for conflicts between EMET and .Net 4.6, 4.7, and 4.8, and didn't find any reports of that.

Caveat: Because of slowness with Firefox and Chrome (as reported elsewhere on this forum), I turned off EAF/EAF+ for all applications.  I did this when I was on .Net 4.5.2.   So I haven't yet tested a fully functioning EMET with EAF/EAF+ on .Net 4.8.

Now that Win 7 is out of support for home users, I'm considering enabling EAF/EAF+ selectively if the slowdown isn't too bad.  Test it out on applications, one by one.
