Updating from Windows 7 to 10 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello, I have a few computers in our company that came with Windows 7 OEM and I'm like to upgrade them to 10 OEM. Tested on one computer and the update tool works with no issues and I get a generic upgrade key. Question is- am I compliant or I need to purchase keys for the 10?

  • Have you tried the OEM Windows 7 key? Try Change Product key and then use the earlier OEM key.You must use the COA key.

  • Hi,

If you want to upgrade, you can do it freely, but your license will not be valid.

You may refer to the discussion below:

Since this is a technical forum and not a licensing one,  if you need a definite answer you'd better contact your reseller or a trained Microsoft licensing specialist regarding your licensing questions.

Please contact the Microsoft Activation Center.

    Best Regards,

  • Hello,

The free upgrade offer already expired back in year 2016. As per Microsoft, you should now buy new license for upgraded Windows 10. Read more here:
