windows updates Failed - Reverting the changes

    Question

  • I am currently running windows 8 Pro on a Toshiba Satellite Laptop, 64Bit.

I just tried to install 20 updates and it got to 98% complete then suddenly started reverting changes.

I've never had any trouble installing updates on this machine before but it's new.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks in Advance.

  • Does it fail in all updates or some of them?

Check update history and see if there is any successful update?

In start search for Action Center and open it and in troubleshoot run Windows Update troubleshooter.

  • Hi,

try all the steps from this KB article first:

"Failure configuring Windows updates. Reverting changes. Do not turn off your computer" error when you try to install Windows updates
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/949358/en-us

If this doesn't work, we must look for error messages in the following log files to see the cause of Windows 8 update failures:

Please run the Windows Explorer and go to the folder "C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\" and copy all files to your document folder, also copy the file "C:\Windows\Inf\setupapi.dev.log" , the "C:\Windows\WindowsUpdate.log" and the file "C:\Windows\winsxs\poqexec.log" to your document folder (otherwise you can't upload it), zip all files into 1 ZIP and upload the zip to your SkyDrive [1] and post a link here.

  • I wouldn't try to do them all at one time and do them individually, until I ran into the one or ones that were causing trouble.

  • Hi,

If We still failed to install updates after running the Windows update troubleshooters, let’s try in Clean boot mode to avoid third-part program or service conflict or preventing in Windows update:

How to perform a clean boot to troubleshoot a problem in Windows 8, Windows 7, or Windows Vista

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135

If we still failed to install updates, please help to upload Windowsupdate.log as Andre mentioned for further research.

Please upload them to a file sharing service like Skydrive or "Rapidshare" and put a link to them in your reply.

Link for how to  upload below.

  • Try the solution here: http://youtu.be/gi2-aYBYaMg

If this does not work, try installing all updates EXCEPT driver updates, then install 8.1, then finish installing other updates.
