64 Bit Scanner Drivers

    Question

  • I have a Canoscan 3200F it works fine in Windows 7 32 bit using the Vista driver but I would like to use Windows 7 64 bit and the only thing that won't work is my scanner, the canon website says there are no available 64 bit drivers, according to Intel I do not have virtulisation so cannot use "XP mode".

Is there a solution to this, without buying a new scanner?

Any help would be much appreciated.

  • Hi,

Unfortunatelly you can't... See below a quote from the canon website:

You can use the ScanGear for Windows XP as the one for Windows Vista 32 bit version.
ScanGear does not support the Windows Vista 64 bit version.

And as you can see on the link below, there are no 64 bit drivers for the scanner....

    http://software.canon-europe.com/products/0010013.asp

Here is some additional info from Microsoft:

Drivers designed for 32-bit versions of Windows do not work on computers running a 64-bit version of Windows. If you're trying to install a printer or other device that only has 32-bit drivers available, it won't work correctly on a 64-bit version of Windows. If you are unsure whether there is a 64-bit driver available for your device, go online to the Windows Vista Compatibility Center.

A last shot you can try:

To run a signed 32-bit driver in x64 Vista will be a hit and miss situation. Some will work some will not. You could try using the compatiblity mode for the drivers install program. You could also manually select the driver's .INF or .DLL file while manually pointing Vista to the driver.

And here is a link to a discussion that you can try as a very last resort:

  • I haven't purchased it myself but VueScan:

    http://www.hamrick.com/

probably works fine on Win7 X64.

The compatibility list states, though, that the Canon ScanGear software must be installed. I don't know whether you can do that under Win7 X64. (At a guess, no.)

VueScan is available as a free trial, so you can test it without risk.

As the Canoscan 3200f in an inexpensive scanner, it wouldn't make a lot of sense to spend much money getting it working under Win7 X64.

  • TRANSALATE, please. Bonsoir. J'avais un problème avec un scanner Canon de 1998, N670U. J'ai trouvé sur un forum une solution miracle et gratuite pour à peu près tous les scanners : http://www.vuescan.fr/. J'ai W 7 x64. Impeccable. Cordialement. Bernard.
