  • The only data that is stored on the 100MB partition is the bootloader of Windows.

    The general idea of separating this from the main OS partition is for full drive encryption. The pre-windows boot sequence is unable to read encrypted data of a disk, hence it's unable to boot into Windows. Making use of a small parition to hold the bootmanager, which can de-crypt the volume if certain requirements are met.. Windows then is able to boot normally.
