Update KB2761226 fails to install with error 80073712

    Question

  • All other updates installed without any problem, only this one fails to install. My computer is properly connected to Internet. "Enable/Disable Windows Features" dialog works properly(I can add/remove functions to/from windows without problem).

    I've tried the following fixes without success:

    • run "sfc /scannow" : it found some minor irrelevant problems and successfully fixed them all;
    • run the "windows update trouble-shooter": it reports that it found some problems("detected potential windows update database error 0x80073712" and "must repair windows update componets", both were marked as "fixed") and fixed them all, but all it actually did was clearing-out my "installed update" list without doing anything helpful;
    • disabling all non-MS services using MSConfig.exe;
    • run "dism /online /clearup-image /restorehealth": this one gives error 0x800f081f "Either the repair source was not found or the component store cannot be repaired.", I've tried to use the "/source" switch to point it to a install source([extracted ISO]\sources\sxs) but didn't help either.

  • 0x80073712 = corrupt files (ERROR_SXS_COMPONENT_STORE_CORRUPT)

    You can also point to a WIM to to use it as source when using the new commands.

  • tried that ( /source:[path to extracted ISO]\sources\install.wim ), still the same error(0x800f081f).

    C:\Windows\system32>dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth /source:D:\Apps\Microsoft\Windows\6.2\cn_windows_8_enterprise_x64_dvd_917570\sources\install.wim /english

    Image Version: 6.2.9200.16384

    [==========================100.0%==========================]
    The restore operation failed. Either the repair source was not found or the component store cannot be repaired.

    Error: 0x800f081f

    DISM failed. No operation was performed.
    For more information, review the log file.

    The DISM log file can be found at C:\Windows\Logs\DISM\dism.log

  • looks like you miss the Index. WIMs can habe multiple Images and so you must set an index.

  • What's the grammar for specifying index and which index should I choose? I've already tried to add ":1" to the WIM file but that didn't help either.

  • try this. Mount the original WIM to C:\mount and run

    Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth /Source:c:\mount\windows /LimitAccess

    Does this work?

  • SFC don't even report any damages:

    "Windows 资源保护未找到任何完整性冲突。" ("Windows resource protection did not find any integrity conflicts", if that's the proper translation)

    And the biggest abnormal in CBS log are some [DIRSD OWNER WARNING]s.

    CBS log attached below:
