Error 0x0000007E after upgrading XP SP2 to Vista RC1 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

After upgrading from XP SP2 to Windows Vista RC1 (both 5600 and 5728) I get a blue screen error message saying:

    STOP 0x0000007E (0xC0000005, 0x818370B2, 0x824BFA68, 0x874BF764)

I can revert back to Windows XP, and have done so, and tried again to upgrade. I've tried three times with build 5600 and once with 5728,  and the last time I did with 5728 I got the above message.

I've also tried using the Startup Repair, but it just goes for hours, and doesn't find problems, nor does it end.

    Thanks for any help,

  • I recommend trying a clean install rather than an upgrade.

  • I just tried to install Vista RC1 (Build 5600) from DVD on a blank new Fujitsu Siemens Celsius M350 (Core 2 Duo, 2 GB RAM, etc.) and got the same stop error :-(

The same happened after installation of Win XP and starting Vista setup from there.

  • I experienced the same problem. It might have something to do with the mainboard (MSI) or the BIOS (provided by ACER). I dread a clean installation won't help either. This is the very first time I have trouble in upgrading a windows installation.

  • My problem was solved with a bios-update. The problem occurred with a PCI-X-graphics adapter. A had no problem with onboard-graphics or with PCI-graphics.

  • Yeah I am having the same stop error as well except mine occured after taking out only 512MB of ddr ram. I still have 1GB DDR in but I just get the blue screen stop error 0x0000007E.

Anyone know how to resolve this?
