Previously user was using Windows XP and able to change password every 30 days. Now after using Windows 7, user is not able to change the password. Are there differences in the ports used for changing password between Windows XP and 7?

  • Hi,

From your post, I know that user cannot change password on Windows 7 when he traveled overseas. But he can use Windows XP with no problem previously.

Please help to clarify following question:

    • Would you please let me know if there is any error message when he tried to change the password.

Regarding current situation, I suggest we check the password related setting in Computer management.

Clear “User cannot change password” in computer management.

    1.    Right click Computer select Manage
    2.    On computer management window under System Tools go to Local Users and Groups and select Users
    3.    Right click on “Your User Name” and select properties
    4.    Clear (Uncheck) "User cannot change password">>Click apply and Ok>>Exit Computer Management.

Then, please make sure that you create a strong password, and try to change again.

In addition, this issue can be caused by corrupted user profile, please check if we can change password for another user account:

    Test in New user account:

    Create a user account

Please take time to perform above troubleshooting steps and let me know the results.

Hope these could be helpful and look forward to your response.
