Windows Defender RRS feed

  • Question

  • I want to unistall Windows defender from my computer, it is a piece of *** and I have better software that does the same thing better. If I cannot unistall Windows Defender then I will leave Windows and Microsoft forever. Currently that involves 5 computers and growing. I am already test driving Linux.

  • Hi Tom,

    Thank you for the post.

Windows Defender is a built-in component in Windows Vista and we cannot uninstall it. However, we can use the following method to turn it off:

    1. Open Windows Defender in Control Panel.

    2. Click Tools, and then click Options.

    3. Under the Administrator options, clear the Use Windows Defender check box, and then click Save.  If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

After disabling Windows Defender, it will not work, and you can use the anti-virus programs you like without its interference.

I have included some anti-virus programs that have been confirmed to be compatible with Windows Vista for your reference:

    Hope it helps.

    Best regards,
