  • Question

  •

We are facing very strange issue with  installing SCCM clients, as well as through auto discovery as manual installation push.

We did already check the Boundary Groups ..Site status =OK

Still no luck. pls advise .

This happens after we upgrade our SCCM to Configuration Manager 1906 Hotfix Rollup (KB4517869)

    See below error log ..

  • Hi,

From the logs you provided, I find the following error may related to our issue:
Download Update: A recoverable error has occurred.  A retry attempt will be made. Error: 0x800706d9, Description There are no more endpoints available from the endpoint mapper.
, Context: The error occurred while the remote file was being processed.

This can be caused by Windows Firewall service is stopped. Please check the service on both serer and agent side and start the service to see if it is working.

    Hope it can help.

  • Hi Crystal,

Thanks for your quick response, indeed the firewall is disabled via GPO. Once we enable it we are not able  ping the client neither access the admin$ share to check the installation  log files.

    pls advise.

  • Hi,

For the issue after enable the service, please make sure all the required ports are opening in Windows Firewall.

    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/configmgr/core/plan-design/hierarchy/ports

Meanwhile, please also ensure file and printer sharing is turned on, the firewall rules which are related to Ping request and administrative share are also enabled. The following link for your reference:

  • Hi Crystal,

It looks like once we enable the firewall and set it to running state, the client is getting installed. successfully.Unfortunately the client is still showing as UNMANAGED state under End Point Protection Deployment Information. We did already enable the Client settings for SCEP  to be deployed and installed om the client. Can you please advise ? Thanks

  • Hi,

Thanks for your update. I am glad to hear that the SCCM agent is installed successfully after we enable the firewall service. Congratulations!

For the issue “Deployment state of Endpoint Protection shows unmanaged”, please try the following steps to see if it is working:
    1. Make sure the following setting under Client setting is set as Yes.

    2. Restart the affected machine to see if the result will change.
    3. Go to agent side, Control-> Configuration Manager->Actions, Run the following actions and wait for some moment to see if the state will be changed.
Machine Policy Retrieval & Evaluation Cycle,
        Software update Scan Cycle
        Hardware Inventory Cycle

Please try the above steps and if there’s any update, please let us know.

    Best regards.

  • Hi,

For the error in the log, it seems there are some file still existing. Would like to confirm if we did uninstall SCCM agent on this computer before? If yes, please manually remove the following information and reinstall again to see if it is working:
    1. Delete the CM folder on Windows directory
    C:\Windows\CCM
    C:\Windows\CCmsetup
    C:\Windows\ccmcache

    2. Delete the SMS config file
    C:\Windows\SMSCFG

    3. Delete the SMS registries
    HKLM\Software\Microsoft\CCM
    HKLM\Software\Microsoft\CCMSetup
    HKLM\Software\Microsoft\SMS

    4. Delete the SMS certs
Connect to the Local System Certificate Store, SMS folder delete both certs

    Hope it can help.

    Best regards.
    Crystal

  • Hi,

After checking the log again, I find the exit code is 0. It seems the Configuration manager agent is installed successfully. Could you go to the client side to check if there's "Configuration Manager" under Control Panel. The information will be like below:

If there's any update, please let us know.

    Best regards.

  • Hi,

Thanks for your confirmation. As the agent is installed, we can check if the MP is existing in the location the same as my picture provide in last post, also check if the actions are existing , Check the client status on the SCCM to see if it is active under Assets and Compliance-> Devices to make sure it is installed successfully.

For the custom agent settings, it can be another issue. To make our thread not confused. We suggest to open a new thread to troubleshoot on this issue. You can also check the log such as  ClientLocation.log, LocationServices.log, PolicyAgent.log under C:\Windows\CCM\Logs on client side to see if there’s any error when connecting MP to get the policy.

    Hope it can help.

    Best regards.
