Cannot open pdf from web site, get error message.

    Question

  • I cannot open pdf file from web site in windows 7, get message INTERNET EXPLORER STOPPED WORKING. Clicking on anything shuts down explorer.  Also some web pages have random words converted to links that go to various junk websites. This just started 2 days ago.

  • The problem could be related to the Internet Explorer PDF add-in, but we need more informations: check the Windows "Application" log in the Event Viewer to see if there's any record related to this problem and post the details here.
    Also perform a full antivirus/antispyware scan of your system.

  • I changed the name of bho_project.dll to bho_projectXXX.dll and it appears that it fixed the problem.  I am now able to open pdf files from website, also can open pdf attachment in email.  Do you know what the original bho_project.dll is used for, I have not used my computer much since I renamed it, but so far no other errors or problems.  Thank you.
