Intel 915 Chipset Windows 7 DRIVERS (GRAPHICS)

    Question

  • I've a dell GX280. Currently i'm using windows vista on it. The problem is that i can't manage to install driver for my graphics in windows 7 whereas windows vista auto install the graphics driver (though i still can't enable aero on vista).
Video playback is crappy and i can't set a refresh rate higher than 60mhz. I'm stuck with standard vga adapter drivers from microsoft.

WHERE CAN I FIND A DRIVER FOR WINDOWS 7 WHICH WILL RUN MY GRAPHICS ATLEAST THE WAY VISTA USED TO DO?

    P4 2.8 Mhz
    GMA 900
    2 Gb Ram

  • "Q3: Is Intel providing WDDM drivers for Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 900 (Intel GMA 900) on Intel 915 Express chipset-based platforms?

A3: Intel will provide support for WDDM drivers beginning with the Intel® 945 Express chipset family and beyond. See question 5 below for a detailed explanation of WDDM support on Intel® 915 Express chipset-based platforms. However, Windows Vista is supported on the Intel® 865G, 915G Express desktop chipsets and 852/855GM mobile chipsets running XPDM (XP Display Driver Model) driver included on the Windows Vista install media. Windows Vista will install on these platforms, but advanced features such as Windows Aero will not be enabled as XPDM drivers do not support Windows AERO."

No Alex, I expect you have to use the Vista  XPDM version of the drivers... or else you get errors, there are only XP drivers from Dell and I strongly recommend the Vista drivers instead...

  • Use the driver from vista, it will give the same results, use any driver backup program to export and save the driver, then reinstall the same driver in Win7
PS, you may need to install through device manager, you must follow these instruction or Win7 will not install the drivers as the generic drivers it uses by default has a newer date. Install by going to device manager -> right click on your display adapter -> select "update driver software" -> select "browse my computer for driver software -> select "let me pick from a list...." -> select "have disk" -> select "browse" -> browse to the folder where your device drivers are located and select the inf file and install the driver...

  • Faysel,

The Dell website should absolutely have video drivers for your model of notebook, and you should be able to download and install them manually. If there are no Windows 7 drivers available, the Windows Vista drivers should work fine.

  • okay i work for a company that works with dell all day i go the go around all day and i have 5 systems in my house with windows 7. ive tested all the betas and now use all RTM.s windows 7 ROCKS. its stable as XP but looks and acts like VIsta, its accaully faster than XP when setup right. hard to believe. But as to your question. i also have a GX280 3.6GHz, 2GB RAM and installed it. everything went fine except for video. i used the XP driver in compatibility mode then used Windows updates like 4 times before it installed properly. and now everything besides Aero worked. And as for Dell having your drivers. Dell will only offer drivers that were build for that system. So vista probablly isnt available for it.
