Change default logon domain name in the logon screen

    Question

  • Hi,

    I've tried to implement this solution http://support.microsoft.com/kb/555050 on my W7 Ent (joined to domain A) without any success. The main idea to setup script for users from domain B and allow them to login to W7 from domain A without typing domainB\username. Any ideas how to do it?

    Thank you!

    I don't know what your DC is, but if you're using 2008 or have an extended schema for GPO:

    There is a group policy found in Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\System\Logon called “Assign a default domain for logon “. Enable this policy, enter your domain’s name and you are finished.

  • Thank you TheRedFedora you answer gave me some ideas how to accomplish this without applying GPO (local or domain). I simply place following REG file as a task in my SCCM TS and as result I have W7 computer from domain A but with default logon domain B:

    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System]
    "DefaultLogonDomain"="DOMAINB"
