Deploy windows patches in SCCM but not install until a specific time RRS feed

  • Is it possible to deploy windows patches to a server but not install until a specific time. Do you think this configuration will work and the updates will not be install until the specific time is reached.

  • Yes, thank you so much for the great suggestion, Completed testing yesterday. On the device collection created maintenance window.

and the software update group is scheduled @

So now all the patches are pushed to the required server and will start installing at scheduled time.

  • Yes and No ... this will work but if you really need all the patches to go at the same time then the best way I have found is

    1. Set a Maintenance Window on the collection give it 3 hours
    2. Create your deployment like you have above but set the deadline date at least a day before your maintenance window opens .. This gives the machines enough time to get the policy and will cause them to download the updates for more or less to pre-stage .
    3. VERY IMPORTANT .... DO NOT set the deployment to run outside of the Maintenance window

( Also be sure to have your software update evaluation cycle runs before your Deadline to give the machines a chance to fully evaluate all the updates that it needs)

Usually within 15 min of the time the Maintenance Window opens you will see your servers begin to patch all at the same time ...

Also remember you have a Maintenance window now set on your collection... so when deploying other items out keep that in mind .
