Windows Activation Error after XP Pro w/ SP2 Upgrade RRS feed

  • Question

  • I completed my upgrade from XP Pro SP2 to Vista Ultimate last night without any issues.  This morning I went in to login for the first time and the sytem said:

A change occurred with your Windows license.

You must re-enter your Vista Ultimate product key to activate.

And then there is a box for the product key with a cancel button at the bottom.  I enter the product key that is on the CD Case, as well I have tried my MSDN key, both of which do not make appear a OK or Update button, just the cancel button.

If I hit the cancel button, I am then logged off.  There seems to be no way around this.  I can login to Safe Mode without Networking and it will let me in ok, but even Safe Mode with Networking tries to activate and says I can't in safe mode so I have to reboot.

  • I am having the same problem. I upgraded my XP box with my Vista Ultimate and then it asks for an activation. IT will not allow me to activate, even with a valid product code!
