  • The easiest thing to do is to ask your domain administrator to do that for you, as all domain admins have admin privs on machines joined to the domain.  But if that is not possible, you'll have to poke around for one of those rescue cds that allows you to change reset the admin password by booting from a cd.

  • Another way, remove the computer from domain and create a administrator account, then re-join domian.

    Thanks.

  • In fact, to reset a lost Windows 7 administrator password is not so troublesome now. You can reset a forgotten Windows 7 password by using a installation disk, a user account with admin privileges, or reset it with a recovery tool no matter what brand of laptop you are using, dell/hp/toshiba/acer/samsung or other. These three tips will not lead to lose any filses or other things.

Tip one: Reset Windows 7 Password with Windows 7 Installation CD

    1. Insert the installation disk to your locked computer, restart. When following interface appears. Cllick“Repair your computer”.
    2. A dialog with several options pops up, click Command Prompt.
    3. When a Command Prompt black screen appears, type "copy c:\windows\system32\sethc.exe" and press Enter. Then type "copy c:\windows\system32\cmd.exe c:\windows\system32\sethc.exe" afterwards press Enter key.
    4. Restart your computer. On the login screen, tap Shift key five times and you'll see a command prompt screen in administrator mode. OK, type "net user UserName NewPassword" (replace the UserName and UserPassword with which you wanna) and press Enter key. The user password will be replaced with new one. Close the window and then you can login your laptop Windows 7 with new password.

Tip two: Reset Windows 7 password with CMD

    1. Logon you laptop with another user account which has admin privileges.

    2. Click Start, type in "CMD.EXE" in the search box, press Enter.

    3. Cammand screen apears, type in "net user" "user name" " new password", press Enter.

The user account password will be replace as the new one.

Tip three: Recover Windows 7 password with a Windows password recovery tool.

This method requires you to load a Windows 7 password recovery program.

    1. Install the program on another computer and create a password recovery disk with USB

    2. Insert the disk to your laptop and set your laptop to boot from it.

    3. All user accounts will be loaded, then you can reset any user password.

  • There is an age-old trick that doesn't even require a disk.

    1. Restart your computer. As the BIOS is going, unplug.
    2. Turn it on again. When asked if you want to boot normally or not, choose System Repair.
    3. Wait for system repair to load... Once it's done, you should see a message pop up asking if you want to Send or not. Click details, and scroll down to the .txt file. Open it.
    4. In Notepad, go to File>Open, then navigate to C:\Windows\System32.
    5. Find a program called sethc.exe, and rename it to whatever (I use "sethc1")
    6. Find cmd.exe, and make a copy of it.
    7. Rename this copy to sethc.exe.
    8. Close all of this, and restart the computer. Boot normally.
    9. Once you get to the logon screen, press Shift five times (you've just set the Sticky Keys shortcut to run cmd.exe instead of sticky keys)
    10. in the command prompt, type <net user Administrator *> (minus the <>'s) and press enter
    11. you can now reset the Admin password!
