Can we add CMG service at primary site instead of CAS RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi All,

We are planning to implement CMG for Internet client management and existing hierarchy consists of CAS, multiple child primary sites. We are planning for Consolidating the Hierarchy into standalone primary site by removing CAS in future .

If we enbale CMG at CAS now and and we consolidate in future using REmove CAS feature in SCCM CB 2002 , we will need to remove CMG and then recreate & configure CMG service again which will will be challenging & administrative efforts.

hence I am looking for possibility to add CMG at primary Site instead of CAS and is it supported ?

  • Hi,

    Thanks for posting in TechNet.

I'm afraid it's not supported. The Cloud Management Gateway must be created at the top tier of a SCCM hierarchy. In your scenario, you have to install CMG on your CAS server.

Each hierarchy supports a single instance of this role. It can only be installed at the top-tier site of your hierarchy, which is a central administration site (CAS) or stand-alone primary site. If that's a central administration site, then create CMG connection points at child primary sites. The cloud service manager component is on the service connection point, which is also on the central administration site. This design can share the service across different primary sites if needed.

    Detail information is documented at:
    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/mem/configmgr/core/clients/manage/cmg/plan-cloud-management-gateway
    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sccm/core/servers/deploy/configure/about-the-service-connection-point

Hope my answer could help you. Thanks for your time.

    Best regards,
    Simon
