RDP Can't Connect to Workstations RRS feed

  • Question

  • Periodically, my users cannot connect to workstations in our domain, via VPN or MSTSC. They get this error:

"Remote Desktop can't connect to the remote computer for one of these reasons:
    1) Remote access to the server is not enabled2) The remote computer is turned off3) The remote computer is not available on the network"

I confirmed the power settings do not let the PCs go to sleep mode. It affects domain admins, so it's not an account issue. The "periodic" part of this issue makes this difficult for me, as I do not know how to test this consistently or what would make it work at times and not others. Any ideas?

1 can you enter winver in command prompt on client computer and remote pc then look the os version and os version number ?[for example windows 10  enterprise 1809 (os build 17763.316)]
2 do you mean when your end user remote access from their client computer in external network to their work pc in company network ,we can not initiate remote desktop connection?
if the user take his computer to the company then connect to company network ,when end user's private computer and his work computer in the same internal network(without using VPN),will the same problem happen?
3which steps did your remote desktop connection stop?
    (1)initiating remote connection
    (2)secure remote connection
    (3)configuration remote connection
4 did you install RDgateway in your company environment ?
    5 what's your VPN MTU setting ?

  • This question seems to have quite a big scope. starting from a network issue to rdp services being stopped.

Forum can help you better with more troubleshooting steps.

Does this occur to specific set of servers?

When the issue occurs does rdp works from internal network (first remote into a jumpbox via vpn and then remote into broken server via jump host)

When issue occurs does the server listening to port 3389 (via a jumphost, preferably on the same subnet > telnet brokenboxIP 3389)
