On-screen keyboard (tabtip.exe) won't resize application's main window when explorer.exe is not runing RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

we have kiosk style application (desktop .net winforms) which runs instead of explorer.exe on Windows 8 tablet.

When our application runs tabtip.exe to show on-screen keyboard the tabtip won't resize our application's main window from fullscreen to approximately half screen size causing that many input controls are hidden by keyboard.

If our application is run normally (from running explorer) than when tabtip is lunched it resize our application's window correctly (tabtip is docked to bottom).

I found this problem occur when ever explorer.exe is not running (either by running in kiosk style or by killing explorer process).

Our application in kiosk mode is lunched from 'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows_NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\Shell'.

Any ideas how to avoid this issue?

What is relation between tabtip and explorer?

    Any help appreciated.

  • Hi,

We couldn't  resize tabtip in Windows 8, this was designed by default. You can try a workaround method by refer to the link below.

  • Hi, thanks for reply.

I am not trying to resize tabtip on-screen keyboard. Tabtip normally resize visible window (not its own) when it will show up, so it can dock to bottom of screen. But this resizing of active window don't work when exeplorer.exe is not running.
