Install O365 and Visio 2019

Question
-
I am trying to install O365 and Visio 2019 Standard on a PC. I am using ODT and have created many configuration files. I first tried installing O365 then Visio but Visio would error out on install. I then tried installing Visio first and then O365 but the O365 install would just remove Visio. (I do not have O365 set to uninstall Visio on install) I then tried to create a single ODT file to install both O365 and Visio but only O365 installs. I am using the CDN for all the installations and 32 bit.
What am I missing?
Thanks

I discovered the issue. I needed to be in the same Update Channel for both O365 and Visio. The different update channels download different versions. Which leads me to another question.
Righ now the latest version of O365 and Visio volume license is version 1811. As I understand it, the volume license software does not receive any updates once it is purchased. When O365 version 1901 is made available, am I going to be able to install it on the PC that has Visio 1811?
Thanks

Hi Rob,
Yes, if you are not using shared computer, it is supported to install Visio 2019 and Office 365 ProPlus on the same computer. And it requires to use the same update channel for them.
About the update version, if you are using the same update channel, the installed Office 365 ProPlus and Visio 2019 are all installed in the same latest updated version, for example Version 1811 currently in Monthly update channel.
For volume licensed version of Visio 2019 updates, you’ll keep it updated as Microsoft releases security updates and quality updates, such as updates that provide stability or performance improvements for Office. But there is no feature updates. The feature updates are available in Office 365 ProPlus.

Hi Rob,
Would you mind to share the detailed configuration.xml file here for more information? I can help to check it and ensure there is no problems on it.
Also make sure the update channel for Office 365 and Visio 2019 are configured to the same channel in your configuration.xml file.

Winnie Liang

Hi Rob,
In your configuration.xml file, I notice the SharedComputerLicensing is configured to enabled. Are you using Office 365 ProPlus and Visio 2019 on a shared computer environment?
Based on my knowledge, the SharedComputerLicensing is not supported in Office 2019 and Visio 2019. If you want to use both Office and Visio products on the same shared computer, you can use shared computer activation to install Visio Online Plan 2 (previously named Visio Pro for Office 365) on a shared computer with Office 365 ProPlus.
Anything unclear about it, feel free to post back for more discussion.

Winnie Liang

Hello Winnie,
I just installed Visio 2019 with Office 365 ProPlus and I noticed after installing Visio 2019 it changed Outlook's appearance (reply, forward buttons and a few other stylistic changes to the app.) After looking around a bit I noticed that Outlook was downgraded from version 2001 to 1808 which is surprising to me. When I try to update Office it tells me that Office is up to date. Is there any way to get back to the most up to date version of Office after installing Visio?
Thanks,
AaronThursday, February 20, 2020 3:12 PM -
Hi Aaron,
Same thing is happening to us, one thing I noted is that MS states that Visio 2019 and O365 can coexist if they use the same channel and if O365 is at least running 1808. Which is the same version we are downgraded to when we install Visio 2019.
Microsoft 365 Apps
Visio Standard 2019 (retail)Yes, but with a caveat. 2 They both use Click-to-Run and are the same version (16.0). 2 You must be using at least Version 1808 of Microsoft 365 Apps, because that's the earliest version that recognizes Office 2019 products, including Project and Visio. Version 1808 or later is available in Current Channel, Monthly Enterprise Channel, Semi-Annual Enterprise Channel (Preview), and Semi-Annual Enterprise Channel. For Microsoft 365 Apps release information, see Update history for Microsoft 365 Apps.
Using the online repair allows us to move back to the latest version of the channel we use but that's unpractical.
Did you find a reason and a fix for that?
Cheers
