Unable to install Dragon RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am unable to install Dragon Naturally Speaking 12 -- on windows 8 pro 64 bit - for some reason every time I try to install this program when it is almost completed the whole computer freezes, locks up, and I have to manually switch it off and restart it.
I have contacted Nuance, who have no advice or suggestions, tried the removal tool, re-downloaded and reinstalled Dragon -- I have done this at least 5-6 times with no success.

I have another PC exactly the same Windows 8 Pro 64bit and Dragon works great?

Any suggestions would be appreciated as I use this program frequently.

    Thanks,

  • Hi,

Did a search in Windows 8 Compatibility Center and only Dragon Naturally Speaking version 11 is listed.

However, please try to run this program in compatibility mode and see how it works.

Also, check if there is any related trace in Event Viewer.

    Hope this helps.

  • Hi Jeremy,

Really appreciate your response, thank you.
I have tried installing both Dragon 11 and 12 in compatibility mode -- have run the Dragon removal tool - several times, run repair on Windows 8 - reinstalled everything at least 2-3 times no success.
Unexplainable but I have Dragon 12 working on my Windows 8 laptop.

The only trace I can find in event viewer is (several times) : --- Log Name:      System

All a bit over my head I'm afraid! But what happens every time when Dragon says finished installing this may take several minutes -- the whole PC simply locks up - until I have to turn it off to escape.

Would appreciate any suggestions but know you are all very busy and I can cope for now,

    Once again thanks,

    Graeme

  • Hi,

Based on the current situation, I’m afraid we need to use Process Monitor to troubleshoot the issue.

  • Hi Jeremy,

Once again thank you for responding.
How do I go about Process Monitor - I am happy to follow step by step instructions if it helps - might be good for someone else.

    Regards,

    Graeme

  • Dragon NaturallySpeaking Install/Reinstall

Copy the install disk to a file folder on your desktop.

    1. After a failed attempt to install Dragon speaks on Windows including Windows 8 you must use the nuance remover tool: http://supportcontent.nuance.com/dragon/12/tools/DNS12Remover.exe
    2. Do not use the Windows un-install program.
    3. To Install - Dragon NaturallySpeaking
    4. Reboot your computer.
    5. Set your Screensaver and the computer Sleep Mode to two hours.
    6. Turn off your firewall and antivirus for at least two hours.
    7. Run the "setup.exe" from the desktop file folder that you created.
    8. During the install process the green status bar will show complete, it is not complete.
    9. Do not touch your computer for at least 15 minutes. Do not be tempted to do anything like move a window or anything else.  You will eventually get a window that says "Finish".

    10.  Before clicking finish, uncheck the box that says "check for updates..."

    11.  Be aware that Dragon NaturallySpeaking has a very unfriendly install program and ANY wrong click will require you to start over with step one above.

    12.  You may end up with a box that says "A serious error occurred while starting NaturallySpeaking.  Please try reinstalling the product to correct this problem".

    13.  Close this box and finish any other open windows.

    14.  After several attempts to open NaturallySpeaking my program finally worked.  Good luck with your installation.
