AnalyzeSystem Power Efficiency Scheduled Task Run Failure RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

I got an alert from SQL Sentry saying that this task failed. When I looked into it seems like all of these tasks on multiple server 2012r2 boxes all failed to run runs successfully on 2008r2 and 2012 boxes.

This task is enabled by default from Microsoft, running powercfg -energy runs successfully and I can view the report.

Task Scheduler failed to start instance "{Correlation ID}" of "\Microsoft\Windows\Power Efficiency Diagnostics\AnalyzeSystem"  task for user "NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM" . Additional Data: Error Value: 2147746306.

Anyone else having this similar issue? Boxes are fully patched, all updates installed.

    Thanks,

  • Probably not much help but the error code by itself could have some different meanings.

  • Yeah, could be. This is a Microsoft created task and not sure why its failing on all of the 2012r2 servers. just wondering if anyone else wants to check their history for the task on 2012r2 to see if it has errors as well.

  • Hi gonshik,

    >>Task Scheduler failed to start instance "{Correlation ID}" of "\Microsoft\Windows\Power Efficiency Diagnostics\AnalyzeSystem"  task for user "NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM" . Additional Data: Error Value: 2147746306.

Please checking if the similar thread is helpful:

    https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/68019b24-78a5-4db0-a150-ada921930924/task-scheduler-failed-to-start-additional-data-error-value-2147943785?forum=winservergen

Besides, please workaround this using script.

Creating a logon or startup script.

    In addition:

    1. Turn off these scheduled task (The tasks are bound to fail since they do not meet certain criteria for this hardware, just that the error message is not accurate)
    2. Change the Task Monitoring scripts not to throw alerts for these tasks.

    Best regards,

  • Hey Andy,

This isn't a logon failure. Disabling the task is probably best but why does Microsoft enable it by default on server OS? Additionally seems like this happens on all 2012r2 servers.

  • Dave,

Yeah I wonder why that is. I know its not really impacting anything and I added an exclusion to my alerts but still curious.

  • Yea I don't know. It fails when run manually as well. It runs some 'Custom Handler' (compiled DLL?) so no way to even know what it is trying to do.

  • I suppose this is a behavior by design.

    Too funny!
