Can not open IE9 in Windows 7 Professional both 32bit and 64 bit.

    Question

  • After update to IE 9 by using Windows auto update, we can not open IE9. When we click IE9 icon or run iexplore.exe, a popup windows flashs very fast, then disappeared.

It has already happened in our a few workstations with  Windows 7 professional either 32 bit or 64 bit. Hope any suggestions except system restore or uninstallation. Thanks.

  • What about the installation process? Did everything work fine?
Check the Windows "Application" log in the Event Viewer to see if there's any error record related to this problem.

    Bye.

  • The installation is successful. I have just checked the Windows "Application" log in the Event Viewer, and I don't see any error msg realted to it.

  • Try performing a full integrity check of system files: open a command prompt window and run the following command

    sfc /scannow

Wait for the end and rebbot the system.

    Bye.

  • Run first time sfc /scannow, it says there are some problems logged in CBS.log. Checked CBS.log, it is too big to know which lines are important. Restart computer then run two more time sfc /scannow. Last two sfc complete without bad msg.  But IE9 can not open (flash very fast, then disaapears.).

    Any suggestions?

  • I have obtained some info by using ProcessMonitor. I can find many records about iexplore.exe with results like "END OF FILE", "FILE LOCKED WITH ONLY READERS", "NAME NOT FOUND", etc. I appreciate any suggestions for next step. Thanks very much.

    Hi,

Try to reinstall IE9 manually for test:

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/how-do-i-install-or-uninstall-internet-explorer-9

Before install IE9, you can also try to use IE8 to check if the same issue occurs.

If the issue persists, try to logon with safe mode with networking to check if IE9 works.
